Description
Vintage German Monk Munchner Kindl “Munich Child” Lidded Beer SteinAttributed to Eckhardt Engler, this figural stein is marked “Germany, 551” and “EH 17” on the bottom. This vintage, collectible character of the Munich Child (Munchner Kindl) was the symbol of the city of Munich for about 800 years. The serene faced child wears a hooded, long monk's robe and holds three beer steins in one hand and radishes in the other. The hand-painted detail is vibrant and well done, and the bottom orange ring of paint has a luster hue.
Size: approx. 8-5/8” tall x 4” base diameter.
Condition:
Very good, preowned condition. The paint is in good shape with only minimal loss as shown. There are a couple tiny flakes: one off the robe just above the foot and a second just above it on the radish greens. Pewter collar and thumb latch are in good condition and work as expected. There is slight play in the hinge and head rotates slightly in the pewter collar. Bottom unpainted foot has a couple of flat chips—see photos.
