AS PRESIDENT, one page, 6.5x9, White House letterhead, August 21, 1984. Letter to Hollywood friend Douglas Morrow, in full:
It's convention eve and now I learn of your great talent with elephants.  We have a herd of those party symbols in Dallas and you could have had them doing an Irish clog but you won't be in Dallas.  We'll just have to get along with the same old circus parade.
Seriously -- but it's hard to be serious about this -- we both enjoyed the pictures and mainly the captions.  Thanks for sending them.

The 1984 Republican National Convention was held in Dallas, Texas from August 20-23.  Reagan would accept the nomination just 2 days after sending this letter - the first such sent during a national convention that we have handled.
Douglas Morrow was a Hollywood screenwriter and film producer. He earned an Academy Award for his script for 1949’s The Stratton Story, a biography of Baseball player Monty Stratton, who was disabled in a hunting accident. Reagan, who catapulted to fame as an actor, became friends with Morrow when Morrow sought to cast him in that part, remained friends throughout the Hollywood days and kept in contact through most of his presidency.
