This is an authentic, original BRASS SIGN THAT MARKED THE WHITE HOUSE BALLROOM (EAST ROOM) FOR SIX OF THEODORE ROOSEVELT'S EIGHT YEARS AS PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. Measuring 4.0" x 6.0", the meticulously detailed sign features the Presidential Seal with a ring of 45 stars -- one for each state in the nation at the time. The sign was originally installed in 1896 and was in place in The White House when Roosevelt was sworn into office in 1901. It remained until November 1907 when Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state in the union, at which time Roosevelt removed and replaced it.
The White House Ballroom is today known as the East Room and occupies nearly one-third of the first floor. It has been the site of some of the most consequential events in American Presidential history, including where President John F, Kennedy coffin was placed following his assassination in Dallas, where President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964, where President Gerald Ford was sworn into office following Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974, and where President Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the Soviet Union, signed the INF Nuclear Treaty in 1987.
This is a truly one-of-a-kind White House relic and an incredible witness to American Presidential history. Other White House signs have sold at public auction for amounts up to ,000. In excellent vintage condition, showing modest wear due to age and use. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an actual piece of The White House and a unique memento of the 26th President of the United States who officially named it.
