    Description

35th President.  Two-page typed document signed (TLS)
    "John Kennedy"
as Senator from Massachusetts, July 1, 1959.  Kennedy has signed on the second page of a typed letter signed, dated June 12, 1959, of Richard M. Pack, Vice President, Programming, Westinghouse Broadcasting Company, to Senator Kennedy, accepted by JFK at the conclusion. In part:
All of us at Westinghouse Broadcasting Company are happy and proud that you are taking part in our 'Reading Out Loud' educational series. As you know, WBC is producing this non-commercial television series in cooperation with the American Library Association. Each of the programs features an outstanding man or woman of achievement reading out loud from a favorite book to a small group of children. The aim of this series is to encourage reading in the American home, particularly by youngsters; it is part of an overall effort by our stations to use television to help raise the cultural level of this nation. Our present plans are to launch this series on the five television stations...sometime in the Fall of this year and then, with the American Library Association, to make it available free to other television stations, also for non-commercial use only...As compensation for your services in connection with this program, we will pay you the sum of 0. We may also use your name and likeness in publicizing and broadcast of these programs."
Great Kennedy signature accepting the deal on the second page.
In their two years, 10 months and two days in the White House, the Kennedys did more to raise the cultural level of the United States than any of their predecessors. The participation of poet Robert Frost at the inauguration, performances by cellist Pablo Casals and Shakespeare plays at the White House, convincing French authorities to lend the
    Mona Lisa
to be displayed in major American cities, as well as JFK's establishment of the President's Advisory Council on the Arts are just a few examples.
Expected folds, two staple holes at top left corner, slight surface creasing, else fine.
