This is an authentic, extremely rare metallic cocktail coaster from Presidential Yacht serving Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower, the U.S.S. Williamsburg. The coaster is emblazoned with U.S.S. WILLIAMSBURG and PRESIDENTIAL YACHT, and features an image of the vessel. Measuring approx. 3.25" in diameter, this extremely rare metallic coaster originates with a staffer who worked in the White House during the Truman and Eisenhower Administrations. In excellent vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. A one-of-a-kind memento of the Truman and Eisenhower White House.
The U.S.S. Williamsburg was a U.S. Navy gunboat and former private yacht, that served as a Presidential yacht from 1945 to 1953. On November 5, 1945, she relieved Potomac as Presidential yacht and was re-designated AGC-369 on November 10 of that year. In ensuing years, the Williamsburg served Presidents Truman and Eisenhower.
During President Truman's tenure, she embarked such American and foreign notables as Secretary of State George Marshall, President Miguel Aleman of Mexico; and two successive British prime ministers, Winston Churchill and Clement Atlee. President Dwight D. Eisenhower made one cruise on the Williamsburg, coming on board at Washington, on May 14, 1953, and cruised to Yorktown, Virginia, where he disembarked to visit the ship's namesake, the colonial city of Williamsburg. Re-embarking the Chief Executive at Yorktown later that day, Williamsburg touched at Norfolk, and Annapolis, Maryland, before she returned to the Washington Navy Yard to disembark the President on May 18. President Eisenhower subsequently directed that the ship be placed out of commission. She was decommissioned at the Washington Navy Yard on June 30, 1953 and remained in "special status" from April 2, 1959 until struck from the Navy list on April 1, 1962.
An incredibly rare opportunity to own one a unique memento of Presidential history with direct connection to President Harry Truman and President Dwight Eisenhower. All photos were taken without flash.
