  • Condition: This is a nicely decorated stein made in Germany in the late 20th century with a pewter lid. The stein is in good condition with no hairlines, repairs, chips or breaks to the pottery portion. The thumb-piece associated with the lid has its top portion broken off cleanly and if you never saw this stein before you would not recognize that it was broken off. This is the reason we are selling this stein at a fraction of its true value. Other than that, the piece has some crazing to the glaze but its colors are vivid and the design is truly very interesting. The lid is in good condition too, with one small ding but no other damage (except for the broken off portion of the thumb-piece). The lid has a few minor scratches and has acquired a nice gray age patina. The stein is a bit soiled and can use a good cleaning. Be that as it may, this is a very nice piece, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.

    Details
    Description:
A very nice light brown colored pottery stein with a very nice raised design showing a herd of deer in the woods on a cobalt blue colored background, on its exterior. The stein has a round base with slightly curved and inwards rising to a plain rim. The stein has an applied handle with raised decoration. The stein has a hinged domed lid made of what we believe is pewter which rests on the plain rim. The lid has a short reticulated thumb-piece, which we believe has been shortened by breaking its top off. This does not affect he thumb piece and it still works fine except you can tell it part of it was broken off. There is a saying in English below the design which says "A little heath, a little wealth, a little house and freedom; with some friends for certain ends: But little cause to need'em." The stein is marked on the bottom "GERMANY SC." It is also marked 1/2L along the rim near the top of the handle. A nice and substantial stein weighing about one pound and 11 ounces. A beautiful stein to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
