Description
43rd President. Autograph letter signed “George
” on both sides of a 6x4 card headed “George Bush for President”. Undated, but the accompanying envelope bears a May 26, 1987 postmark. To Knox McConnell of Keystone, West Virginia campaigning for his father’s presidential race, in full:
Dear Knox – Thanks for the kind letter. I thought the article by Garret Mathews was positive – not negative. There is nothing wrong with a son defending his father. The event was terrific. Dad was so pleased when I told him of your hard work. We are all grateful. Work hard. I’ll talk to you in the near future.
McConnell was a highly successful banker and a close personal friend. An unusual letter connecting two presidents.
