Description
Rare Antique State Department Menu . Cyril Magnin was a power broker in the democratic party. He was heavily involved in fundraising for Roosevelt and was still active through Lyndon Johnson. This handwritten menu on heavy stock bears the logo of the state department. It includes the place card for Mr. Magnin. He was the grandson of Isaac Magnin who with his wife started a chain of upscale clothing stores in California that over the years ended up being a part of Federated department store. Cyril Magnin was president of that company from 1940-1952. He died in 1988. Has some handwriting on the back that appears to have no reference to this item. Shows evidence of being in scrapbook. This menu is likely prior to the start of WWII so around mid to late 1930s. Entertainment was really cut back after the war.
