This is a very unique item. I purchased this to convert my 2009 Ford escape hybrid into a plug in hybrid. What is included is an extra battery, as well as a battery charging system with a plug so I can be plugged in.
Let me explain how I got this. I was very interested in converting my hybrid into a plug-in hybrid. That way I would get much more usage out of battery only versus the engine kicking on right away. I did some research on the Internet and found out that for the 08 to 12 models of the Ford escape, a plug-in hybrid was in the making. It was due to be released, but it never made it to market.
I contacted the engineering firm that they used to produce the additional batteries and the chargers and I was able to convince them to sell me the equipment so that I could do it on my own. The extra battery and charging unit can be mounted inside the car or underneath the car. They are built as sealed units, and are completely submersible in water.
The battery structure is the same as the existing Ford escape hybrid battery. This battery system is not limited to the Ford system and will work on anything using a similar battery type system. You just need to wire the new battery up to the existing battery, and then you will have two batteries, which together equal almost double the capacity of the original. Then the charging unit should charge both batteries when you plug it in. That way you are starting off with a full charge every time and should be able to do more with battery only, thus getting a much higher in MPG rating when you combine everything.
This is a one of a kind chance to get this. This equipment costs thousands of dollars. There are other aftermarket systems like this, but with much less capacity and they cost 00 plus.
