Description

Wall calendar for the year 1887, picturing First Lady Frances Cleveland, with advertising for a Norfolk, Virginia fertilizer manufacturer, c. 1886. Martin Meyers, Baltimore, Maryland. Features a large chromolithgraph portrait of Mrs. Cleveland, "The Lady of the White House." Trace soil and light wrinkles, with a few tears and some roughness near the edges. Displays excellent.
Frances Folsom married President Cleveland, her former legal guardian and 27 years her senior, in the White House on June 2, 1886. At just 21, she remains the youngest First Lady. She was hugely popular, and a great variety of material culture was produced using her likeness. We have not seen another example of this calendar, however.
