Original and well preserved, ca1865 Albumen CDV Photograph of President Abraham Lincoln and his family which incorporates a heavily retouched version of the photograph of Lincoln and Tad which was originally taken by Anthony Berger while working as a photographer at Mathew Brady's studio on February 9, 1864. The Image at the center of this "Lincoln and Family" Portrait is identified by Lloyd Ostendorf as O-91. It should be noted that this is an Albumen, CDV Photograph of a mostly artistic representation of the Lincoln Family.
In the CDV offered here this image of Lincoln and his son Tad is surrounded by an artists representation of the rest of the Family with wife Mary Todd Lincoln seated to the left of her husband and oldest son Robert in military uniform standing behind his parents. On the wall at the upper left had corner of the image is a hanging portrait of a young boy surely meant to represent the Lincoln's son Willie who had died in 1862.
This outstanding, albumen CDV Photograph measures approx. 2 3/8” by 3 3/8” and is mounted on its original, CDV Card Mount (overall size of card mount is approx. 2 1/2" by 4").
This rare and original, CDV photograph is in very good condition - with sharp focus and good contrast and tonality. Both the Photo and the card mount have some soiling and a bit of edge wear as can be seen in the scans below.
